Contrast, Balance, Harmony

I find this image to display contrast, balance, and harmony through the cliche reflection on water picture. I did have another picture that was an image of Nike shoes, but once I saw this picture it grabbed my attention. The balance of the reflection from the arched bridge creates a nearly perfect circle, which illicites in me a sense of wonder as to who created the bridge. Not only do i wonder who created the bridge but how long ago was the bridge constructed. the harmony of the reflection and how similar the colors of the reflection are to the top side are amazing to me. This image could easily be flipped upside down and a sense of self- questioning would be inspired as to whether or not you were seeing the image correctly. There is almost no distortion at all which is unique. On the other hand the contrasting golden rays of light that are straining across the water. Additionally the structure that is right in the middle of the arch, is balanced, harmonic, and contrasting at the same time to me. If I had to guess I would say that the timing of this photo is in the morning, which to me is very relaxing and brings me a sense of harmony.

Just for kicks, no pun intended, I want to post this picture not only because the shoes in the picture are Air Jordan IV's which are my favorite; But because the balance of the reflection, and the contrast on color and lines, shapes, and forms on the shoes is interesting to me.

Visceral Response: Capped Crusader

The Piece that I have chosen for this assignment is the eleventh part of a series by Jason Ratliff called Walking Shadows. The whole series is pretty incredible, but this piece is one that has struck me recently. This piece to me is creative, but at the same time obvious. I find it interesting how the artist has created an idea that who we will become is always in our shadow. And also that if we go deep enough, our potential, and all that we are capable of is inside us from the beginning. I find it entertaining how the artist used that source of light to create the shadow on the wall is the flashlight that the child is holding. In addition in the comic books and movies of batman it is a spotlight in the sky that projects the bat sign, and how the artist used the flashlight to do this as well.
I feel as though batman is alive and has motion because of the lines shapes in his cape. The use of geometrical shapes to create the shadow or image of batman is captivating cause its not just a solid one color like most shadows. Its multiple shades of grey, and the yellow symbol on his chest stands out and makes the image Identifiable as Batman.

If anyone is interested there is also a similar piece in the series that is Superman.
